This resource is a 1 week teaching sequence for the book Emma Jane’s Aeroplane by Katie Haworth.

It teaches children how to write a retell based on the story. They reinvent it by changing key details - eg. changing Emma Jane to themselves, and choosing the animals she collect and the cities she goes to. Lessons use colourful semantics to reinforce grammar and sentence structure.

Children learn:
-How to plan
-Collect exciting vocabulary
-Use commas in a list
-Compare exciting verbs using zones of relevance

I’ve also included a highly differentiated unit of work for any children working below the expected standard. It uses the same text but breaks it down into 5 lessons building to writing a sentence.

Resource includes:
-Worksheets for the week
-Differentiated work if children are working at a lower level
-Powerpoint presentation to support teaching
-Big write support (wordbank)
