Students pick a social issue and write a story (between 800 and 1200 words) about a character who is suffering due to that issue. This competition helps students learn about social issues and to build empathy.
The best story will have the most believable main character, and show how he/she suffers because of a social issue. Does the main character survive in the end? The story will include convincing details to show that it could happen in real life and create empathy for the main character.
