English Exam Question Practice With Multiple Top Model Answers to Given GCSE Questions *June Exam*

This document will be examining IGCSE English Language B (Paper 1, DATE: Tuesday 5 June 2018 Morning Paper) reference: 4EBI/OI

This exam had the following texts as unseen pieces of literature for students to analyse, and compare:

NUMBER ONE: ‘Living in a Steel Box’ adapted from an article by Adam Forrest. (In this passage, the writer presents his ideas about living in shipping containers.)

NUMBER TWO: Adapted from the novel ‘Six Suspects’ by Vikas Swarup. (In this passage, the writer describes different types of houses in India.)

The below are questions the PDF will cover, and these originate from section A, of the examination, where all marks total to 40% of the paper!
QUESTION one:

*Explain how the writer presents his ideas about this unusual type of housing…(this question is regarding the text: “Living in a Steel Box”).

MARKS: 10

QUESTION two:

*How does the writer describe what Ashok and Eketi see and feel? (This question refers to the extract: “Six Suspects”)

MARKS: 10

Here is a basic breakdown of the different sections of Edexcel IGCSE English

Language B:

These sections comprise of:

“A” being the place likely involving two unseen texts, which have to be to annotated, analysed and compared with each other. Here you will need to be able to meet Assessment objective AO1, AO2 & AO3.

“B” is the time where pupils would be expected to write a piece of transactional writing (examples being: writing to inform/explain/review/argue/persuade/advise). Here you will need to be able to meet Assessment objective AO1, AO4 & AO5.

“C” would be the part of the exam where a pupil would be given the opportunity to choose one out of three options of a style/genre of writing, and an imaginative piece of work would probably be included in this section . Examiners would look out for AO4 & AO5 in this portion of the paper.
