English Lesson Starters Fun and Interactive

Over 30 of 5 different fun and interactive activities to get children thinking about language and vocabularly. Mostly in a fun wordsearch format, the activities include:

1. Boggle - finding words from the letters in a given time frame
2. Colour Thesaurus - Finding alternative words for common colours
3. Emotions - Finding alternative words for common emotions
4. Homophones - Finding pairs of Homophones
5. Alternatives - expanding vocabularly for common verbs and adjectives

The power point is easily rearranged should you want to spend a week, for example, on colour thesaurus. I have done this with emotions when focusing on creative writing.

Some of the word searches are more difficult than others, the following slide contains hints that show the first letter of each word. Whether or not you need/use this will depend on the age and ability of your class. My lower ability Year 5 class need the hints after a few minutes of looking.
