This resource allows students to understand the importance of having good English skills in order to access their chosen career.
It also includes some brief information on the history of the English language in order to add context to the way English language has evolved.
Aimed at 16 - 19 learners but could also be used for neuro diverse learners and reluctant learners( as it is broken down into small chunks) as well as ESOL and Functional Skills English learners.

Suitable for learners thinking of making career choices

The lesson includes a power point with:
Starters: 10 minutes
spelling and punctuation with answers
images for learners to think about descriptive language and identifying nouns and verbs
Contextual Information: 15 minutes
Two videos and links based on the history of English language and how it evolved with some related questions
Writing Activities: Learners will:
Create a personal record of how they use reading, writing and communication skills everyday. 15 minutes
Research a chosen career and English skills needed 30 minutes
Create an information leaflet on a chosen career 30 minutes
Extension writing activities
The research activities and the example leaflet focus on careers within the media although can be adapted for any career. All times are approximate - I have found that the lesson can be delivered in 1 hour 30 minutes.
