‘Blanche is no tragic heroine, just an infuriating, self-pitying snob’. Examine this view of Blanche Dubois in 'A Streetcar named Desire’. A-level English Literature essay.

An exemplar essay for ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ arguing that the clash between Blanche Dubois and Stanley Kowalski is an extended metaphor for the collision of the Old South and its antiquated customs against contemporary American society. There is ultimately no hero or heroine of the play, but only a lament for a lost society.
