An introductory lesson to expanding brackets with a fill in the blanks introduction sheet, structured worksheet and extension task. This set of sheets uses the compound area/grid method to teach expanding double brackets. The structured worksheet begins by providing the grid structure with increasingly difficult expansions before moving to questions without the structure. It also introduces the idea of square brackets and a difference of two squares. The extension sheet encourages pupils to work backwards and begin to understand the idea of factorising into two brackets.

Brilliant resource. If I was a student and worked through these exercises I’d certainly know what I was doing. Looking for a resource as a teacher and this pretty much does the job. Thank you!
