Puberty and Our Genes: Understanding puberty and exploring our genetic blueprint.
This one-hour introductory lesson is designed for students in UKS2 (Year 6) or possibly students in LKS3. The lesson focuses on the intricate relationship between our genes and the changes our bodies undergo during puberty. Through age-appropriate discussion and scaffolded activities, students will delve into the role of genes, DNA, and chromosomes in determining not only our biological sex but also the spectrum of changes our bodies undergo when transitioning into young adults. We will also discuss other non-genetic factors that can play a role, such as our health, lifestyle factors, and the importance of eating a healthy and nutritious diet. This engaging lesson offers a range of activities, including three levels of challenges to challenge your most able students. The lesson includes a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, interactive discussions, a video clip with accompanying questions, and a plenary game.
