This planning template was designed to help children focus on both the content and composition of their narratives, from question and vocabulary prompts to a colour-coded success critera that is referenced in each section.
In my first years of teaching, I noticed that fiction planning often focused on what will happen in the story, rather than how it will be told - I designed this resource to change that, equipping all students the tools to combine quantity with quality!
What is included in this resource:
- Three templates (WTS, EXS, & GDS) to ensure all students are suitably supported and challenged (WTS = longer sentence stems and vocab support; GDS = independent idea and vocab generation + GDS challenge!)
- Sentence stems to scaffold high quality writing (these can be adapted/removed to suit your class.)
- A colour-coded success criteria that is referenced throughout the plan.
- High-level vocabulary prompts to promote ambitious vocabulary choices.
- An imagination box to support visual learners and creative thinking.
- An example plan for The Adventures of Odysseus, showing how this template can be used.
**Note: **some details of the templates will need to be adapted to suit your needs (success criteria, question/ vocabulary prompts and sentence stems) You may also wish to add/remove sections depending on the length of your write, but as each section follows a similar structure this is easily done.
Top tip: use the more detailed stems on the WTS version for teacher modelling!
