This is a lesson resource for a single lesson on Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s “Sonnet 43”. Initially designed as a one-off for a group of Year 9s heading into their GCSEs at the start of Year 10, this resource would serve as an introduction to the poem and a way in for students studying the Eduqas GCSE English Literature Poetry Anthology.

The mat is designed to be printed on A3 paper and for the student to work their way through methodically (with guidance). The mat includes lesson objectives, guiding questions, a copy of the poem (with some space for highlighting or annotating), a list of key terminology, a space for a practice paragraph, and a section for peer assessment.

It makes a useful resource for students’ revision folders or as a one-off lesson to refine poetry analysis.

Included are both the .pdf and .pub files for the mat and a simple .ppt presentation to guide students through the mat, all of which you can modify as it suits.
