Language : German
Topic : Countries (Saying which country you are from)
Skills : Reading, Speaking
Type of Exercise : Powerpoint / multiple-choice
Level : German beginners upwards
For use : in class/for homework.

Suggestions for use :

(Warm-up match-up vocab exercise available separately.)

Teacher displays slides and pupils, working in teams, read the correct answer (and keep going until they make a mistake).

After a mistake, the next team takes over and sees if they can get more answers right before making a mistake.

A time-limit could be imposed on each team to keep things snappy.

Please note that SIX different versions of the game are available here so that you can ‘randomize’ the order of the slides.

Each slideshow has fourty photos of different cities around the world (not always the capitals) and four prompts in German (only one of which is right).

Learners have to work out which option is correct and read the sentence aloud, eg Ich komme aus Schottland.

Main aim is to maximise learner-talking time and reinforce the key vocab.

(The exercise could be set as homework after class for further reinforcement.)
