GCSE / A Level activity for students of Nazi Germany.

Pupils conduct a simulation in groups of three or four designed to get them to report their fellow citizens and guess who are the secret police. After most of the class have been turned in, it is revealed that there were no Gestapo officers present after all. Pupils reflect on what caused them to act as they did.

Works particularly well with the clip from 'Nazi's A Warning From History' where Resi Krauss is interviewed about why she filed a report on a neighbour and is unable to give a coherent explanation.

Includes lesson outline, background information cards and 4 roleplay cards.

This is a good activity. The young people enjoyed the role-play and it had a meaningful impact on their learning. I preceded the activity with a bit of context for the class and after the activity I had prepared a series of questions for them to work on.
