Gothic Reading and Writing Unit - 19 Lessons (Year 8)

This 19-lesson Gothic unit is targeted at Year 8. It explores a wide variety of Gothic texts and creative writing skills.

Here is an overview of the lessons included:

1 = Introduction to the Gothic genre

4 = Frankenstein and descriptive writing
5-6 = The Black Cat* and narrative writing
7-8 = The Masque of the Red Death and descriptive writing
9 = Gothic similes and metaphors
10 = Advanced punctuation
11-13 = The Monkey’s Paw and foreshadowing
14-15 = Planning and creative writing assessmnet
16-18 = Ghost story S&L group work project
19 = Fun final lesson designing a gothic book cover
