Grid listening & speaking template

***Grid with sentence chunks to be used as a way to model sentence construction and build student confidence with reading aloud. ***

How this activity works:

  • First the teacher reads sentences, selecting one ‘chunk’ from each column - students listen and write down the sentence code.
  • This can then be used as a helpful way to model speaking, where students are given sentence codes that they need to read aloud.
  • You can also get them to ‘be the teacher’, creating their own sentences for their partner to listen to and write the code.

Why this activity is helpful:

  • Clearly demonstrates extended sentence structure.
  • Gives students lots of ideas for more independent speaking.
  • Practices reading aloud (an important skill for the new MFL GCSE speaking exam) in a fun way.
