Halloween Phase 2 phonics pack for Reception: 24 CVC word cards, 8 decodable sentences, bingo and a Read-and-Draw sheet, all using taught Phase 2 sounds.

Bring some spooky fun to your Reception phonics lessons with this Halloween pack for Phase 2. Children practise blending and reading simple words and sentences with Halloween themes, and every word uses only the sounds they have already been taught. It is a print-and-go resource that builds confidence while keeping the excitement of October in your classroom.

What is included (6 pages, print-ready PDF):

24 Halloween-themed word cards, including CVC words and words with ck, ll and ss
8 decodable sentence cards, such as “A bat is in the sack.”
A Read-and-Draw worksheet where children read a sentence and draw what it says
4 Halloween word bingo boards, with the word cards used as calling cards
A teacher page listing the Phase 2 sounds and tricky words used

How to use it: Print and cut out the cards, then laminate them to use again next year. Children sound-talk each word, blend the sounds and read it aloud. Use the sentence cards once children can read the words on their own. The Read-and-Draw sheet works well as independent work, and bingo is a fun small-group game.

Why teachers will love it: Every word and sentence has been checked against Phase 2, so you can be confident children are reading what they can decode. The pack uses UK terms and needs no preparation beyond printing.

Suitable for: Reception classes, nursery children who are ready for Phase 2, intervention groups, teaching assistants, tutors and parents.

Please note: This is a digital PDF download for printing on A4 paper. It is not an official Department for Education resource.
