Halloween Reading Comprehension Worksheets KS2

These are Halloween themed reading comprehension passages for KS2 that include a range of non-fiction winter texts for Key Stage 2, whilst also giving you a selection of Halloween reading comprehension activities. Each Halloween reading passage has a non-fiction reading text, followed by five varied comprehension questions. There are then three Halloween themed reading activities, which can be used with any of the passages. They are perfect for Key Stage 2 classes.

Passages are:

• How to make your own witch’s hat
• I’m a Halloween cauldron
• A short history of trick-or-treating
• How can I have a more eco-friendly Halloween?

What’s included?

• nonfiction Halloween-themed text - one poem, one set of instructions, two explanation texts and an information text
• 20 comprehension questions - include questions on main idea and key details, quoting accurately from the text and vocabulary questions
• 3 reading comprehension activities - these can be used with any of the passages. There’s a comparison worksheet, a vocabulary worksheets and a main idea and key details worksheet

Your class will enjoy the variety of passages and tasks. There is plenty to keep them busy, as they work through the questions and activities.

The passages and activities could be printed out and given to students as a pack. This would make it perfect for a supply teacher day.

There’s not much to prepare… All you need to do is print the sheets out and hand to the children!

The three activity sheets are designed to delve deeper into key reading skills:

• The comparing worksheet requires children to find similarities and differences between passages
• The vocabulary worksheet requires children to find synonyms for particular pieces of vocabulary within the passage
• The main idea and key details sheet requires children to consider the overarching theme of the passage and the supporting key details
