Halving and Doubling at the shops
A using and applying activity for halving in the context of money. Suitable for year 3/4 and easily adaptable for KS1. Give children a shopping list and ask them to find out which shop is the cheapest place to buy that item. Price lists are provided as are vouchers that can be cut out and children can take them with them to each shop. I printed the price posters on A3 and put them up around the classroom. To extend the children you can use coins/notes and have some children stationed at the shops to work as shop keepers to check the prices and help the children work out how much money off they will get.
