Do you struggle to find engaging activities to teach correct homophone usage?

We created this pack because we found our students soon tired of the usual fill-in the correct homophone cloze activities and we wanted to create something more engaging. In this pack you will find a range of individual and partner games to teach your students how to use homophones correctly in their writing.

In addition, we also found a lot of homophone teaching resources covered a large number of homophones, which was a bit confusing and overwhelming for our students. Therefore, we focused on 23 homophones in a 2 week unit and the homophones we selected are often the most commonly confused homophones. Here are the homophones students will master in each week:

Week 1: your, you’re, to, too, two, it’s, its, than, then, there, their, they’re

Week 2: wear, where, by, buy, bye, here, hear, see, sea, write, right.

Our pack provides lots of repeated practise in correct use of these homophones, which means by the end of this unit your students should feel confident using these homophones correctly in their writing.

Each lesson students begin with a homophone practise writing activity and use the accompanying student guide to help them. Then we have created a range of activities for student engagement and homophone understanding, such as crosswords, sentence roll and write, create your own game board, boggle, word searches and many more. In addition to correct homophone usage, these activities also teach skills in use of alliteration and adjectives, vowel and consonant recognition and editing skills.

We hope you and your students enjoy using this pack! If you have any queries, please email us at eeducationhelp@gmail.com.
