This resource enables your pupils to write a highly personalised ‘snapshot’ poem entitled ‘Somewhere in Our School Today…’ about a day in the life of their school. Children are encouraged to experiment and have fun with ideas, vocabulary choices, alliteration and collective nouns. For example, when describing what actually goes on in their lessons, they are invited to refer to themselves as: a rhyme of poets; a galaxy of astronomers; a panel of paleontologists or a bunch of botanists etc. Successfully tried-and-tested in the classroom, it consists of a complete lesson plan (including starter, examples and differentiation) and an accompanying power point. The power point contains a series of 14 inspirational slides designed to generate ideas which can then be tailored to describe their school and their lessons. The children have loved writing this poem over the years!
