Description:
This engaging PSHE/citizenship lesson introduces children to the Suffragettes and the fight for equal rights. Pupils will explore the concept of fairness and democracy through an interactive activity that highlights what it feels like to be excluded from decision-making.

Children will then design their own protest banners or posters with bold slogans, symbols, and messages promoting gender equality. To consolidate learning, they can take part in a pretend protest, bringing history to life while developing confidence, teamwork, and creativity.

Includes:

Lesson plan with clear learning objectives and assessment opportunities

Teacher-led hook activity (boys vs. girls voting simulation)

Slides introducing Emmeline Pankhurst and the Suffragette movement

Guidance for designing banners and posters

Plenary activities (gallery walk, reflection, sticky note assessment)

Perfect for KS2 (Year 3+), this lesson combines history, PSHE, and citizenship to help children understand equality and human rights in a fun and memorable way.
