A graphs and transformations worksheet for Edexcel IAL Pure 1 (WMA11): cubic, quartic and reciprocal graphs, translations and stretches, with full solutions.

This worksheet covers the whole of Chapter 4 (Graphs and Transformations) of the Pearson Edexcel International A Level Pure Mathematics 1 course, combining curve sketching with the function-transformation notation that WMA11 examines directly.

What’s covered

Sketching cubic graphs from factorised form, including repeated roots
Sketching quartic graphs
Reciprocal graphs and their asymptotes
Points of intersection and solving equations graphically
Translations: f(x + a) and f(x) + a
Stretches: f(ax) and af(x)
Transforming functions and describing transformations in words

How to use it

Works as homework or as in-class practice. Curve sketching is a topic where students often practise too few examples to build fluency, so the sheet deliberately includes a high volume of short sketching questions before moving to the harder combined-transformation work. Useful revision before AS mocks.

What’s included

Question paper (PDF, printable)
Full worked solutions (PDF) — complete method, with sketches, not just final answers
Questions arranged in increasing difficulty

Specification

Written for Edexcel International A Level Mathematics, Pure Mathematics 1 (WMA11), Chapter 4. Also suitable for Edexcel A Level Mathematics 9MA0 and AS Mathematics 8MA0, and for any A Level course covering graph transformations at AS.
