A straight line graphs worksheet for Edexcel IAL Pure 1 (WMA11): y = mx + c, parallel and perpendicular lines, length and area, with full worked solutions.

This worksheet covers the whole of Chapter 5 (Straight Line Graphs) of the Pearson Edexcel International A Level Pure Mathematics 1 course, including the coordinate-geometry problem solving that makes up a substantial part of the WMA11 paper.

What’s covered

The equation y = mx + c and the form ax + by + c = 0
Finding the equation of a line through two points, or through a point with a given gradient
Parallel and perpendicular gradients
Length of a line segment and midpoints
Area of shapes formed by lines and axes
Multi-step coordinate geometry problems combining several of the above

How to use it

Suitable as homework, as consolidation over several lessons, or as revision. The later questions are structured like exam questions, with linked parts where a result found in part (a) is needed in part (b), which is how this topic almost always appears on WMA11.

What’s included

Question paper (PDF, printable)
Full worked solutions (PDF) — complete method, not just final answers
Questions arranged in increasing difficulty

Specification

Written for Edexcel International A Level Mathematics, Pure Mathematics 1 (WMA11), Chapter 5. Also suitable for Edexcel A Level Mathematics 9MA0 and AS Mathematics 8MA0, and for any A Level course covering coordinate geometry at AS.
