Exam-style parametric equations questions for Edexcel IAL Pure 4 (WMA14): converting to Cartesian form, trig parameters and curve sketching.

This resource covers the whole of Chapter 3 (Coordinate Geometry in the (x, y) Plane) of the Pearson Edexcel International A Level Pure Mathematics 4 course. All questions are original and written in the style of the WMA14 paper — these are not reproduced past paper questions.

What’s covered

Parametric equations and plotting parametric curves
Converting from parametric to Cartesian form
Using trigonometric identities to eliminate the parameter
Sketching parametric curves and finding where they meet the axes
Points of intersection and the domain and range of a parametric curve

How to use it

Works as homework, as consolidation across a sequence of lessons, or as revision before the WMA14 paper. Eliminating a trigonometric parameter using an identity is the step that separates grades here, so it is treated as its own skill rather than folded into conversion.

What’s included

Question paper (PDF, printable)
Full worked solutions (PDF) — complete method, not just final answers
Questions arranged in increasing difficulty

Specification

Written for Edexcel International A Level Mathematics, Pure Mathematics 4 (WMA14), Chapter 3. Also suitable for Edexcel A Level Mathematics 9MA0 and for any A Level course covering this material at A2.
