IB MYP Physics Criterion C (Processing and Evaluating) Part 2 workbook: interpreting results, evaluating hypotheses and methods, and suggesting improvements.
Published by Awan Publications – written by an experienced IB MYP and DP Physics educator and Head of Physics.
What is this resource?Part 2 of a two-part skills workbook for MYP Sciences Criterion C: Processing and Evaluating, built for MYP Year 4–5 (Grade 9–10) Individual Physics. Where Part 1 covers presenting data, this part tackles the higher-level strands that separate good write-ups from excellent ones: interpreting data, evaluating the hypothesis, evaluating the method and explaining improvements and extensions. These are the strands where students most often lose marks in practical reports and the eAssessment.
The cause and effect thread runs throughout: students learn to describe exactly how the effect changed as the cause changed, explain why using physics, and judge how confidently that link has been shown. Independent and dependent variable terminology is shown alongside.
What’s insideEach section follows the same clear, repeatable structure:
- Why it matters – what the skill is, linked directly to the Year 5 Criterion C rubric strand
- Worked example – a fully modelled top-level response
- 20 practice questions – plenty of repetition to build confidence and fluency
Skills covered include:
- Interpreting data – describing trends and patterns and explaining them using scientific reasoning
- Evaluating the validity of the hypothesis – does the data support it, and how strongly?
- Evaluating the validity of the method – sources of error, control of variables and reliability
- Explaining improvements to the method, linked to the weaknesses identified
- Explaining extensions – meaningful next investigations
Model answers for every practice question are included at the back.
Who is it for?- MYP Year 4–5 (Grade 9–10) Physics students preparing for practical write-ups and the eAssessment
- Teachers who want to teach evaluation explicitly, with ready-made practice and exemplars
- Integrated Sciences students who need to strengthen conclusion and evaluation writing
Use a section after a practical to model the conclusion and evaluation, set sections as homework, or use the practice questions as starters and retrieval tasks. Pair it with Part 1 (Presenting and Processing Data) for full Criterion C coverage.
