This engaging first lesson is the ideal introduction to the Cambridge IGCSE History course (Depth Study A: The First World War, 1914–18, Exam Board: Cambridge International Education).

Students are introduced to the course structure and expectations before exploring the key themes of WW1. Activities include brainstorming prior knowledge and mapping the two sides – the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente – to build a clear foundation for the depth study. The lesson links directly to Cambridge IGCSE History Coursebook (CUP), Chapter 10, and comes complete with all resources, including a student work booklet.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the structure of the Cambridge IGCSE History course and Depth Study A.
  • Recall and share prior knowledge of the First World War.
  • Identify the alliances (Triple Alliance and Triple Entente) and map the countries involved.
