This is a fully immersive murder mystery game designed to introduce GCSE students to An Inspector Calls.
This lesson lasts an hour, although could easily span two.
It aims to:
- Introduce key themes
- Introduce key context
- Introduce generic conventions of a murder mystery (so that Priestley’s subversion can be explored
- Ignite student curiosity
- Encourage critical thinking
- Develop inference skills
Students are introduced to the Arkwright Mill Murder via this video: https://youtu.be/Z5_lnbM_vvc
Students are then given an evidence pack containing a diary entry, ledger, newspaper article, inspector’s notes, socialist pamphlet, transcripts and photo. There are differentiated versions of these resources.
At the end of the lesson, there is a low stakes quiz that connects the learning from this lesson to the future study of An Inspector Calls.
