1-Hour Lesson – Fully Interactive – Ready to Teach
Dear Colleague,
Imagine the vast plains of the American West, home to the Sioux and other Plains Indians, whose way of life was closely connected to the land and its resources. This lesson explores the lifestyle of the Plains Indians and the opinions that settlers held about them.
This lesson is the first part of a 24 lesson set on the Indians of the Plains. Students will consolidate their general knowledge of the Plains Indians and examine the Sioux as a case study, applying their learning through interactive tasks.
All lessons in this series follow a consistent structure, supporting coherent learning and helping students track their progress:
LO 1: To understand the geographical aspects of the Plains Indians
LO 2: To explain the Sioux lifestyle
LO 3: To evaluate settlers’ opinions on the Plains Indians
Learning Features:
Fully assessed tasks with opportunities for feedback
Extension task included for higher-achieving students
Resources provided at the end of the PowerPoint
This is a straightforward, knowledge-rich lesson ideal for secondary classes and already prepared as a slideshow presentation.
I have also created sets on Plains Indians, Settlers and Development of the Plains, Law and Order, Law and Crime, and a full unit (24 lessons, 100 hours of planning).
