AQA GCSE English Literature (8702) Paper 1 19th Century Novel. Year 10 & / or Year 11.

These resources are designed for students studying the AQA course (8702).

The resources include:

• A range of context activities

• Key quote low-stakes quizzes

• Lesson starter slides. Some of the resources available in the starter slides are designed in the style of Question 1 from either English Language Paper 1 or 2 from the GCSE AQA syllabus.

• A booklet that can be used by students whilst they are reading the novella or to summarise their notes as part of their revision process. This booklet is designed to support making accurate and relevant notes, in order to create an accessible revision resource & allows students to: record the text’s plot (as a storyboard with captions; some illustrations have already been added & there is a summary of the plot developments to help students sketch their images); record two key quotes per chapter (the quotes can also be labelled with the writer’s methods; there is a list of key quotes from each chapter for students to select from); use a table to record the Gothic features of each chapter; identify the key theme(s) for each chapter; use a table to identify important contextual features; track the novel’s tension in the form of a tension graph (also this can be labelled with structural features); make acrostic-style notes to summarise the presentation of the key characters & how the audience would respond. Alternatively, these booklets can be used for homework tasks.

• A glossary for cultural or historical references in the text (the page references refer to the Wordsworth Classics edition of the text).

• Chapter-by-chapter comprehension & summary activities.

• Chapter-by-chapter low stakes quizzes.

• Pre-teaching key vocabulary lists (that can be set as homework).

• Key dates & events in the novel & a breakdown of the chronological order of these events.
