Teacher Description – Jesse LeRoy Brown Colouring Poster

This educational colouring poster introduces pupils to Jesse LeRoy Brown (1926–1950), the first African American to complete U.S. Navy flight training and earn the designation of Naval Aviator. His remarkable determination, courage, and service helped break racial barriers in the United States military and continue to inspire people around the world.

Pupils learn about Brown’s childhood dream of becoming a pilot, his achievements in the U.S. Navy, his service during the Korean War flying the Vought F4U Corsair, and the courageous rescue attempt made by his wingman, Lieutenant Thomas J. Hudner Jr., after Brown’s aircraft was forced down near the Chosin Reservoir on 4 December 1950.
