**Students examine the life, work, discoveries and significance of surgeon John Hunter during the 1700s. **

A 17 slide fully resourced lesson containing warm up & learning review activities, a choice of tasks, printable resources and a printable knowledge organiser with all background knowledge:

  • Slide 1: Title slide
  • Slide 2: Lesson aims and outcomes
  • Slide 3-5: A match up recap activity of other key individuals from the history of medicine in the 1700s including Vesalius, Pare and Harvey. Includes answers and printable resources.
  • Slide 6: Key Terms - Students outline the meanings of 4 key terms from the lesson to help them understand Hunter’s work.
  • Slide 7: Class clip - Students watch an 8 minute clip from BBC Teach (link in the notes) and answer 5 questions about John Hunter.
  • Slide 8: Background information covering why John Hunter was significant in the history of medicine and surgery.
  • Slide 9-11: Task 1 - Students complete their own illustrated timeline using a choice of two printable timeline templates.
  • Slide 12: Task 2 - Students compare the work of Hunter with the work of Ambrois Pare, William Harvey and Andreas Vesalius.
  • Slide 13: Follow up challenge questions
  • Slide 14-15: Learning Review - A 10 question quiz with answers
  • Slide 16: Lesson fact sheet/knowledge organiser
  • Slide 17: Factors for change poster/display
