John Robertson Duigan – Teacher Description

This colouring poster introduces pupils to John Robertson Duigan (1882–1951), one of Australia’s most important aviation pioneers. An engineer, inventor and pilot, Duigan is best known for designing and flying the first successful Australian-designed and Australian-built powered aircraft, the Duigan Biplane, in 1910.

The poster explores Duigan’s early interest in engineering and aviation, explains how he and his brother Reginald Duigan worked together to build the aircraft, and highlights the successful flight near Mia Mia, Victoria, on 16 July 1910.
