Based around the DERIC reading skills and incorporating phonics too (explained in the resource) using the text Worrysaurus by Rachel Bright.

This is part 2 of the planning and resources, part 1 can be found in my shop. This text also addresses the PSHE/PSED theme of feeling worried.

All resources and planning notes on powerpoint;
Activity 6 - Focuses on decoding, explaining new vocab, retrieve and interpreting using the blurb. There is also a focus on nouns.
Activity 7 - Focuses on the first few pages of the text and the skills explain by uplevelling vocabulary, acting out the text for understanding and clarity, looking at verbs as actions, using a word map to explore more challenging vocab and finishes with the PSHE/PSED theme around feelings (retrieval/interpret).
Activity 8 - Starts with a word class activity and then moves on to read the rest of the text, developing a love of reading and reading for pleasure. It concludes with KS1 SATs style questions.
Activity 9 - Starting with a retelling activity/game teaching the retrieval skill, then moving on to focus on the skill of interpret with a PSHE/PSED theme. Helping children understand the feeling of worry and how to deal with it. There is also a science and D&T element that can be built into this activity through your topic lessons.
Activity 10 - Building on activity 9 and retelling, children learn to summarise. They also continue to retrieve/interpret (with PSHE/PSED theme) with a variety of differientated tasks. There is also an opportunity to link to English and letter writing.
