Earlier this year, I analysed the 2017 SATs maths mark scheme to find that over half of the questions were based on objectives from outside the year 6 curriculum: 7% were from Year 3, 26% from Year 4, 25% from Year 5 and 41% from Year 6. In the arithmetic paper alone, 20 out of the 36 questions (56%) were taken from year 3-5 objectives.

I gave my year 6s the 2017 arithmetic paper at the end of Autumn term 1 this year to use as a baseline - I plan to do so again in Spring term. I created this grid to add initials of the children who answered each question incorrectly so I can use it to plan my arithmetic starters accordingly. I hope it helps!

Very useful for a quick summary of what they SHOULD already be able to do!
