This ready-to-teach KS3 Conduction Practical Lesson Pack has been designed to minimise planning time while providing students with a hands-on investigation into thermal conduction.

Students investigate how quickly different metal rods transfer heat by measuring the time taken for drawing pins to fall as the Vaseline melts. Throughout the lesson, students identify variables, collect repeat results, calculate mean values, present their data as a bar chart and use their findings to explain how conduction occurs using the particle model.

The lesson includes retrieval practice, mini whiteboard hinge questions, independent tasks, a complete practical investigation, graphing skills, self-assessment opportunities and GCSE-style conclusion questions, making it suitable as a complete standalone lesson.

This resource includes:

Fully editable PowerPoint lesson
Printable practical method sheet (Word & PDF)
Printable results table (Word & PDF)
Teacher answers throughout the PowerPoint
