This is a fully resourced lesson plan that allows A level biology students to explore the humoral immune response. Students will be able to describe the different roles of B-lymphocytes to form antibodies and memory cells.

This lesson is packed with various activities:

  • Annotated diagram of clonal selection - Students will outline the steps involved in clonal selection of B cells
  • Card sort activity – Students in groups or independently can organise the image cards and descriptors to describe the process of humoral immunity
  • Annotated graph- To discuss the difference between primary and secondary immune response
  • Relevant past exam questions- Students will be able to apply their knowledge
    This lesson would lead well in comparing the different specific immune response as well as sets the foundation for L5. Antibodies.
    Answer sheet provided; good to project on the board when going through the sheet with your students.

Teaching time: This lesson can be delievered in 1 hour lesson
