As a mexican who lived in Mexico for 26 year of my life I would agree with the information of this article and its written style. He was such an important figure in the society. I remember most of my relatives having a photograph of him somewhere in their house, and the popularity he had with the younger generations. How to use this article? Well it's really up to the teacher to find the best use and adapt it if necessary. I used it as a starter, and later on reference for new lexis and finally for debating importance of religion in modern society, are catholics right to refuse birth control, gay marriage, etc.

I think this is a great text considering Catholocism is quite strong in parts of Spain and South America...trust me I've been there!! Students can't be wrapped in cotton wool..they need to discuss real issues and this text certainly makes people react...great way to get them talking in Spanish!!!

People are ridiculous. It's just a text - get over it. First 3 comments are not from intelligent people.

Thanks for sharing. I can't totally understand the upset that this article has caused, simply for having a religious content. I agree with trainor880: if you want to use it, do; if not, dont! This is just a forum for sharing resources, and I don't see any offensive content in the article. I would trust my year 12s, for example, to draw their own conclusions and I think it could stimulate debate about lots of issues related to religion.
