Lecture 10: Adaptive Reuse and Infrastructure

This lecture explores how contemporary urban development can be carefully integrated into historic settings, helping traditional places adapt to changing needs while preserving their character. It examines urban regeneration as a tool for combining heritage conservation with improvements to infrastructure and local social and economic conditions. Through examples from different cultural and geographical contexts, including the Tabiat Pedestrian Bridge in Iran and the adaptive reuse of Misfat al-Abriyin in Oman, the lecture considers how new interventions can support the continued development and vitality of historic communities.
