A lesson and activity where students act as the budget holder for an NHS environment. They have £1000 and have to decide how to spend it, justifying answers and deciding what to do when an emergency comes along!

Finance is a buzzword in the NHS - there is never enough money to do all the things our staff want to, and sometimes we have to prioritise! This activity will help students to learn about budgets, practice their addition and subtraction skills and making choices with a set amount of money.

Students are given an imaginary £1000 and have to decide how to spend it. I’ve used it to also get students to practice their explanations and reasoning skills - ‘why have you bought this over that?’
