We are ExcitEd to share a 1 week literacy unit for LKS2. Children working in year 3 and 4 will write a book review of The Iron Man by Ted Hughes.
(This is week 6 of a 6 week scheme of work built around The Iron Man. The complete half term of work is available as a discounted bundle in out TES shop.)

Complete planning and resources for 5 lessons focused on writing a book review with specific attention placed on the use of paragraphs and apostrophes for possession.

Included with this download:
Detailed Planning for the week.
Daily PowerPoint lesson presentations including starter activities and lesson plenaries.
Reading comprehension with a teachers answer sheet.
Worksheets and activities for each lesson.
Only a copy of the book ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes is needed in addition.

All lessons are differentiated 3 ways using the TAF statements for LKS2.
Daily literacy starter activities are also included - This week we look at using apostrophes for possession.

Lesson 1 is whole class reading comprehension which ensures that children are familiar with book reviews as a text type. This lesson also acts as a ‘hook’. Children will be excited to offer their own thoughts and opinions.

Lesson 2 looks at the text type in more detail and children are required to think about and identify facts and opinions about the book.

Lesson 3 introduces the use of paragraphs and both supports and challenges children with their use of these.

Lesson 4 allows children to plan their own book reviews using a planning frame which will include facts, opinions and support children in their use of paragraphs.

Lesson 5 is an independent writing lesson where children use the skills they have developed over the week to write their own book review of The Iron Man.

This resource is part of a bigger scheme of work based on the whole book. The whole scheme is available as a bundle at a discounted price.

We bring you effective, teacher made, fun and creative resources for use in primary schools linked to the English National Curriculum.
