This workbook is designed to guide students through the exposition element of Act 1 scene 2, describing the battlefield and the valour of Macbeth and Banquo in truly heroic terms. Students are then guided through the riddling of the witches in Act 1 scene 3 and asked to juxtapose the internal thinking of Macbeth with the public heroism on display in the previous scene. The language is translated and unpacked so that in working through the exercises the students begin to learn some of the poetic language and key phrases that will be associated with Macbeth and his developing tragic path as the play progresses.
