This powerpoint lesson guides students through Macbeth Act 1 scenes 4 and 5, (Macbeth and Duncan, Lady Macbeth,her soliloquy and greeting Macbeth). The contents ensure a full understanding of the scenes’ language and dramatic effects, considering the conventions of the soliloquy and the aside, the running themes of disguise and ambition and the growing awareness of the Macbeths of the evil nature of their intentions. Class activities: a matching exercise to ensure full understanding of Lady Macbeth’s soliloquy; an unpacking of a key quotation with a visual task to aid with recall of the central idea of evil disguised as innocence.
