This resource contains a set of newspaper report model texts based on the murder of King Duncan in Macbeth, written for Year 5/6 pupils.

The texts demonstrate writing across different levels of attainment, making them ideal for modelling, shared reading and independent writing support.

The pack includes four versions:

  • Greater Depth (GDS): More ambitious vocabulary, sophisticated sentence structures, subtle formality and atmospheric detail.
  • At the Expected Standard (ARE): Clear paragraphing, accurate punctuation, present perfect examples, quotes and fronted adverbials.
  • Working Towards ARE: More accessible language, simpler sentence structures and reduced detail for scaffolded support.
  • Basic/SEN: Short, clear sentences with visual-friendly structure to support developing writers.

All model texts are fully editable and are provided as PowerPoint files and Canva links (no subscription required).

A writing toolkit is included to support pupils in generating their own newspaper reports using vocabulary, sentence ideas and language features.
