Machiavellianism in Macbeth (Act 3.1 Focus)

This lesson seeks to introduce students to the idea of Machiavellianism to students studying Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’.

This lesson was originally taught during a mock-Ofsted inspection to a GCSE class who were reading the play for the first time as part of their English Literature GCSE preparation. The lesson itself was described as ‘exemplary’ by the inspector in question during departmental feedback.

This lesson requires no printing and features examples of the following activities:

• Paired/group discussion
• Close reading and extract analysis
• Mini white board feedback (can easily be adapted if your school doesn’t have white boards)
• Live modeling of a response to an exam-style question (with a model answer already provided should you wish to use that instead).
• Exploration of all Assessment Objectives relevant to GCSE study.
