A table with the 4 operations. Children must write calculations with all four operations to experiment the different ways they can make the number 24. They can look at patterns like 23+1, 22+2 or doubles 12+12 etc. More than 3 digits can be used. The extension is using brackets such as (2+2) x 6. If taught, children can also use fractions and decimals. Prompt pupils to use factors. A fun investigation and differentiated by outcome. Some children even came up with infinity and 24 - infinity!
