Careers Lessons KS4 + KS5
NEW 12 HOURS- A selection of brand new 2026/27 EC Publishing Careers lessons suitable for KS4 or KS5. Perfect for teens navigating our challenging modern world. There are 12 hours of total content as three of the lessons are doubles, each coming with detailed easy to follow PowerPoint, worksheets, clips, activities and info packs. Made by a wonderful team of consultants and teachers who are, above all, humans, not AI (we write and check every word and fact and are happy to stake our company reputation on what we produce). This is a saver pack - bought separately the lessons would total £25.
**Includes:**
1) Careers, AI and Future Jobs - 2 HOUR LESSON for PSHE / Careers with a focus on how the rise of AI is already affecting the job market and how it will most likely affect all of our career prospects in future. The lesson focuses on the types of jobs that are already facing redundancies, the workplaces benefiting from the technology and the more ‘future-proof’ careers that it’s advisable for students to start considering. The lesson also investigates the prospect of UBI (universal basic income) and how we may see possibly this implemented in future.
2) Job interviews and preparation - Students will spend the first part following the journey of a student called Katey, as she tries to gain a position in the tech industry. They will follow her from Year 8, how she prepared, worked hard and overcame setbacks up until the age of 22, when she finally lands a job at a small start-up after a successful interview. Students will then think about their own journeys, before completing job interview role play exercises and finally creating a TikTok (not on their phones) about how preparation for their eventual successful job interview actually starts now, whilst still at school.
3) Different Types of Employment - In this lesson students will explore a variety of concepts to help them navigate an ever-changing labour market, focusing on different types of employment. The lesson covers: self-employment, full-time and part-time work, zero-hours contracts, freelancing, internships, apprenticeships and many other forms of work. It also examines how the labour market is continuing to evolve, how we have seen a rise in the gig economy, new technologies, flexible working patterns, an increase in people moving for jobs (both nationally and abroad) and many other concepts specified in the PSHE Association’s recommended requirements for Careers Education at KS4.
There’s a lot to fit in!
4) Work Experience - Covers why we do work experience, the Dos and Dont’s, top tips for making it successful, how to make the most of your time and much more. Includes case study tasks, analysis tasks, clip tasks, creative tasks - everything you need to cover the subject in an hour and perfect for non-specialists!
5) Job Applications and CVs - 2 HOURS - Careers / PSHE Living in the Wider World lesson which covers in detail how to create fantastic CVs and cover letters when applying for jobs. Students will explore poor, mediocre and excellent versions of each of these, analysing where applicants went wrong and how they could have improved, They will explore what makes a successful cover letter and CV, in detail, and then create their own (templates are included). Includes case study examples, clip tasks, partnered activities and more. All editable and easy to pick up and teach for non-specialists.
6) Employment Rights and Responsibilities - In this lesson students will explore the intricacies of employment law and how it applies to the everyday person in a variety of situations. They will also investigate how the Equality Act is applied in the workplace, by putting themselves in the position of an employer considering new candidates.
7) Careers in an AI Future - This lesson delves into the ultimate careers question - which jobs will be future-proof in a world of AI? Students will first examine their own skills and qualities and research the current climate with regard to the rise of AI use in the job market. They will then study 24 different jobs, broken down into the six sectors which are likely to value human input and characteristics in the years to come. Students will assess these jobs against their own skills and qualities, before deciding if pursuing any of these options would be a good fit for them. This lesson will likely last two hours.
8) Managing a household budget - a two hour lesson on planning and managing a household budget. Students will examine the household budgets of four UK households - a young couple on average income, a divorcee nurse, a wealthy businessman and a young family with a disabled child. Their task is to stick to the budgets of each household, whilst navigating financial challenges such as pregnancy, a new car, a brother in debt, carer’s allowance, lodgers and much more! This is a fun lesson and culminates in a video bingo game about how different levels of income are managed by UK citizens. Best for KS4/5 but nothing unsuitable for KS3.
