An exciting, engaging pack of materials to enrich students with the knowledge of what Martin Luther King brought to the world. With original music, assembly presentation, interactive lessons (for Y5/6) and associated materials all rooted in expanding children’s cultural capital, whilst also addressing SMSC and Fundamental British Values, this pack is both engaging for students and teachers, whilst also contributing to these key areas of focus across the school.

Contained in the pack:

  • Content Guide - A full breakdown of what is in the pack for teacher review.
  • Karaoke Video with and without Vocal Guide - An original song written by the Vivid Education team containing lots of key information relating to Martin Luther King.
  • Backing Track with and without Vocal Guide - Music only for the above track.
  • Lyric Sheet - A lyric sheet handout for use in class, or assembly.
  • Assembly Presentation and Teacher Notes - A fully illustrated and scripted presentation to introduce Martin Luther King to the whole school.
  • Lesson Plans and Associated Resources - Three lessons, rooted in the creative arts, for Year 5/6 students designed to embed the key learning of the Martin Luther King story, as well as to empower children to become agents of change.
  • Interactive Display Board Materials - A range of resources created to encourage independent work amongst students, for example when they have completed another task and have a spare 5 minutes. We suggest printing these materials and attaching them in plastic wallets to a ‘Martin Luther King Jnr’ display board. Encourage the children to interact with them to further consolidate their learning. Included in these resources is: a Martin Luther King ‘Fill the Gap’ wordsearch; a Dictionary Definitions resource designed to encourage use of a dictionary and a thesaurus, whilst encouraging use of the key words found in the Martin Luther King Story; a selection of Philosophical Questions, designed to inspire conversation and challenge the students to think about the world around them; an independent study associated person picture (this pack has Malala Youzafzai) intended to encourage self study with use of school technology, or alternatively for the students to look into when they go home to then bring the learning back to the class.

We hope that you enjoy teaching these resources to children as much as we have enjoyed making them.

Happy Martin Luther King Jnr Day!
