
PowerPoint (with 5 slides) and one worksheet that focuses on the lives of medieval women. This is a helpful resource for a department with a full scheme of work already in place but would like to add some more diverse experiences into their teaching of the medieval period in a single lesson.
Activities include
- Quick quiz related to previous examples of medieval women who have been referred to earlier in our syllabus. Feel free to change to fit your past teaching.
- Reading and highlighting activity in which pupils identify ways in which women were discriminated against in the medieval period.
- Comprehension activity which pupils identify evidence that contradicts various assertions about the lives of medieval women to demonstrate they did make art, fight, rebel, run businesses, practice medicine and engage in politics.
- Source analysis exercise on Joan of Arc and the role of gender in her execution.
- Plenary discussion exercise comparing the lives of rich and poor women in the medieval period.
Designed for teaching an academically able Key Stage 3 class covering the Medieval World.
