This resource provides Super Six activities on Mirror by Jeannie Baker, and is suitable for an upper primary classroom (approx Year 3-6). .

The resource comes in the form of five, two-page worksheets, plus additional templates and teaching ideas with suggestions on how to turn a number of the worksheet activities into more interactive classroom activities. All Super Six strategies are addressed except for monitoring, as this is more difficult for a shorter picture book text.

Most of these worksheets/activities could be utilised in a groupwork/stations format, with the possible exception of predicting, which is best completed before reading the text.

Activities include:

  • Making connections: Identifying familiar aspects of the text, discussing similarities and differences, considering a student’s own experience in each place
  • Predicting: Cover study (front cover, back cover), consideration of how the two cover stories may be linked, yes/no prediction questions
  • Questioning: Dice game to create w-word questions while reading the story
  • Summarising: Sentence starter questions teasing out the key ideas of the story, story sequencing activity
  • Visualising: ‘Treasures’ activity for each character, exploring the senses for both narratives, diary entry writing task

Worksheets are included in Word and pdf formats to provide total flexibility.
