## Missing Multipliers - NRICH activity

This is a lesson plan and set of resources built around the 'Missing Multipliers' interactive problem from the Nrich Website. It was made for a bottom set year 8 who are struggling with basic mental calculations and also finding and discussing strategies for solving problems. Differentiated task sheets are included as well as starter activities etc. The pupils were given individual laptops, but worked in pairs to discuss and generate ideas.

#### Super Hero Top-Trumps - Scatter graphs lesson

lttmaths.com Top Trump cards depicting superheroes - their statistics correlate (e.g: height / weight or fame / salary etc.) and can be used to plot scatter graphs. I have used these by giving each pupil a hero card, then done a human scatter graph. They then created their own hero card (making sure their statistics fit the correlations shown on the graph sheets).
They could also be used for calculating averages, sampling techniques..... and playing top trumps!

#### 8th Grade Math Common Core Benchmark Exam

8th grade math benchmark. Two versions of the same 6 page assessment are included, each with 56 questions. The questions on each version are nearly identical, with the exception of different numbers. Each version has TWO questions per standard. Sub-standards were not included because the test would have an even larger number of questions.

You can use the two versions in different ways. One suggestion is to give the test at two different point in the year to track student growth. The other suggestion is to mix up the two versions in the same class, so students will not be able to copy from their neighbor’s paper.

A student data sheet is also included. Two versions of the sheet have been included. One is black and white, and the other has color coded columns based on the strand.
#### GCSE Problem Solving Questions of the Day - Tuesday 3rd May

Every day in the run up to the GCSE exams we are intending to put up two GCSE problems of the day on Twitter. Here are the files you can use in the classroom. For each problem there are some variations that you might want to use instead or in addition.

The first two problems are suitable for foundation and higher and the second are suitable for higher.

The first problems can focus on writing a number as the product of its prime factors and then find HCF. There is also a problem involving fractions and percentages.

The second problems involve forming a box plot and also circle geometry to find the area of a triangle.

We hope you enjoy using them. Please tweet your student solutions to @WRMathsHub for a chance to win a prize

#### Going for gold! - Grade C GCSE Problem solving assessments

The original resources and questions for this were all made by Mary Pepper so she gets alot of the credit!

These are GCSE Grade C exam papers specifically looking at problem solving questions.
All paper 1's are the same, but Bronze has more scaffolding, silver a little bit and gold has no scaffolding at all.
Use for your classes as you see fit - I intend to give everyone Bronze 1 and only if they get 70%+ they can have silver 2 etc...
The aim is for them to improve up to gold.

Aim is to get your class more confident with tackling the worded/functional/problem solving GCSE questions.

I will add more in time so keep checking!!!
