This Mission to Mars activity was used with a low ability year 9 class, but it would also be suitable for most ages with some modification. This class worked in pairs to complete the activity, but it would work well as a group activity to encourage team work.

Included in the ppt is a bell task, starter, introduction and timing guidance too. You will find the worksheets in the ppt too.

The word document contains the mission briefing, mission dollars and price lists for equipment.

You could keep the activity as it is, or give additional tasks to build models, consider terraformation, choosing crew members, deciding on the research the crew would carry out etc. It entirely depends on the level of challenge and how many lessons you would like to use. My year 9 class comfortably completed this activity in one, sixty minute lesson.
